
Weiru Liu holds Chair of Artificial Intelligence in the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EEECS) at Queen's University Belfast. She is the Director of Research of the Knowledge and Data Engineering (KDE) Cluster at EEECS. She was awarded the Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh in 1995, as the recipient of the Colin and Ethel Gordon Scholarship Award of the University of Edinburgh.
Prof Liu's research interests include uncertain and inconsistent knowledge and information fusion, updating and evolution, inconsistency handling especially in requirements engineering, uncertain information handling in intelligent surveillance, cyber security and connected health, large scale data analysis using data mining techniques for knowledge discovery and anomaly detection. She has over 130 publications at top international journals and conferences.
Prof Liu has been a PC member of more than 90 conferences/workshops (including all the major international AI conferences). She was the Conference and Program Chair of the 11th European Conference on Symbolic and Quantitative Approaches to Reasoning with Uncertainty (ECSQARU'11) in 2011, is a member of the Permanent Committee of ECSQARU Society and a member of Steering Committee of Belief Functions Society. She will be the Program Co-Chair of the 7th International Conference on Scalable Uncertainty Management (SUM’13) in 2013. Prof Liu is also an invited speaker at the 2nd International Spring School on Belief Functions Theory and Applications (BFTA) in 2013.
Her research has been funded by the EPSRC, TSB, the Royal Society, the Royal Academy of Engineering, EU, InvestNI, and industry.
Together with Dr. Jun Hong and Prof. Ruqian Lu, Prof. Weiru Liu has organized the special issue for IJSI (Vol.6, No.3) in 2012.
